Are You Denting Your Pans?

Chef Todd - I have been watching your cooking videos on youtube and enjoy them very much. One thing that I noticed is that you are always banging your spoons on the edge of your pan. Doesn't this wreck the edge of the pan so that it has a poor seal when your using the lid?

Banging the spoon on the side of the pan started as a way to shake off the ingredients that were stuck there. Honestly, it's probably just a bad habit now. I'm sure it's not good to bang stuff against the pan, but I don't think I'm hurting the pan that much, and certainly not enough to effect things cooking inside. However, it's probably not the best practice, just a habit.
