A very SWEET Grilling Tip

by Jennifer Stevenson
(Enterprise, AL, USA)

This grilling tip is so simple, yet yields truly amazing results.

Before I BBQ ribs or chicken, I let it soak overnight in Coke. You have to make sure it is not Diet Coke, as the sugars in the liquid are what you need to get the flavor into the meat.

After the meat has marinated at least a few hours, you drain the Coke off, and then prepare the meat as usual for grilling. I like to use garlic salt, and maybe a bit of pepper. Then you grill as usual, and add your favorite sauce at the end.

Fabulous!

Coke. wow.
by: DAve A

I will try this, sounds like it makes sense, as you can use COKE to remove build up from your battery in your car, and it will dissolve a nail in a week. But surely that is not all true. smile. This is a good idea. I will try it! Thanks!

Coke Marinade
by: Chef Todd Mohr

The world, and the USA definately have regional food influences. I mean no disrespect when I say "that sure sounds like an Alabama marinade"! It sounds very Southern to me, but that doesn't make it wrong. Marinades can be made of any liquid. If you can marinate in beer and wine, why not Coke or Mountain Dew? If it's good to you, it's good. Actually, you're right about the sugars and salts in the marinade helping to tenderize and flavor the meat.

My only question is, do you have to eat the item with a straw? LOL.

Thanks for contributing your regional tastes. I'm sure you've inspired someone today.

Chef Todd.
